I agree. Excellent book. Perryville is among the top battles I have an interest in, reading everything I can find on it. Have both Hafendorfer and Noe, 'Perryville Under Fire', and another book that came out recently "The Battle of Perryville and the Sixteenth Tennessee Infantry regiment-A Re-evaluation", by Jamie Gillum.   Noe’s book came out in and was titled, “Perryville: This Grand Havoc of Battle.” Noe’s book delved into the battle relating many first hand accounts of the fight as well. His work related more of a cultural history, regarding what happened to individual soldiers and the surrounding country in the days and weeks following the fight.

On October 7, the Federal army of Maj. Gen. Don Carlos Buell, numbering nea, converged on the small crossroads town of Perryville, Kentucky, in three columns. Union forces first skirmished with Rebel cavalry on the Springfield Pike before the fighting became more general, on Peters Hill, as the grayclad infantry arrived. Perryville: This Grand Havoc of Battle is the definitive account of this important conflict. While providing all the parry and thrust one might expect from an excellent battle narrative, the book also reflects the new trends in Civil War history in its concern for ordinary soldiers and civilians caught in the slaughterhouse/5(28).
